Sigfox LoRaWAN PCB Antenna Key Data
- Client: Smartbin in Ireland
- Website: https://www.smartbin.com
- IoT application: Fill level measurement in waste bins and containers
- Employed radio technology: Sigfox, LoRaWAN
- Frequency range: 868 / 915 MHz
- Type of antennas: PCB antenna with switching
- Task: Cost reduction whilst maintaining performance
- Solution: Replacement of helix antenna with PCB antenna with switching
- Special feature: High range despite more cost-effective antenna
Smartbin wanted to improve their fill level sensor. We found a clever solution. The expensive helix antenna had to go. Instead, we developed an affordable PCB antenna. The trick: It switches between 868 and 915 MHz. This allows the sensor to work in Europe and the USA. The result is convincing:
- The new antenna has a better range.
- It costs less.
- One sensor now fits two markets.
Smartbin benefits in multiple ways:
- Lower production costs
- Fewer stock types
- Flexible use worldwide
The improved sensors help cities manage containers more intelligently. They measure accurately and report promptly. Thus, rubbish trucks only drive when necessary. This saves money and protects the environment.
