RED/CE/FCC pre-test: minimise risks, reduce costs

The certification of IoT devices in accordance with RED/CE or FCC is a complex process with many uncertainties. Even with an optimised antenna design, unexpected EMC interference can occur. Antennity offers a specialised pre-test service to identify and minimise these risks at an early stage. As we purchase slots in the laboratory for stock, we can carry out pre-tests at short notice.

Certification and examples of problems

  • EMC interference from components on the PCB
  • Mixed products at high transmission power (23 dBm TX) of the cellular radio module
  • Unexpected mixed products in semiconductors, e.g. in the fuse electronics of the battery
  • Power-down reset on certain channels due to RF sensitivity of the voltage regulator’s sense pin

Possible problems with the pre-test

  • Non-compliance with limit values for electromagnetic emissions
  • Problems with radio range or performance (total radiated power)
  • Failure to fulfil specific requirements for various radio protocols (e.g. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular)

Antennity’s RED/CE/FCC pre-test

Our pre-test service includes:

  1. Testing of critical points in an accredited laboratory
  2. Short turnaround time: Only approximately 2 working days including measurements in the laboratory
  3. Flexibility: Possibility to make changes to the device during the test
  4. Cost efficiency: cancellation in the event of unsolvable problems
  5. Detailed documentation of measurable problems

Time expenditure of 2 working days

The compact time frame of approximately 2 working days enables the pre-test to be carried out efficiently. This tight schedule makes it possible to check the most important aspects of the certification requirements and identify potential problems at an early stage. Antennity made the necessary preparations. Essentially, Spurious Emissions and TRP are then measured and documented in B3, B8, B20. Further bands according to customer requirements.

The price is usually between 2,200 and 3,400 Euro per pretest. An exact price is determined before the measurement after the kick-off call with the project customer.

Advantages of the pre-test

  • Cost savings: Avoidance of complete, expensive certification in the event of critical problems
  • Security: Increased probability of success for subsequent full certification
  • Flexibility: Free choice of laboratory for the final test
  • Time saving: Early detection of problems shortens the overall development process
  • Optimisation: Opportunity to improve the design before official certification

Conclusion

Antennity’s RED/CE/FCC pre-test is an effective way to reduce development costs and minimise risks in the certification of IoT devices. Critical aspects can be checked and potential problems identified in approximately two working days. This enables targeted optimisation of the product before official certification, which saves time and costs and significantly improves the chances of success. Requests for pre-tests are welcome. Benefit from our expertise and reduce your development costs for IoT devices.

Count on Antennity for an affordable and insightful pre-test that clarifies your IoT device development process. We assist you in validating your certification through practical, real-world testing, ensuring your project progresses safely and efficiently. The images above indicate that the Device Under Test (DUT) exceeded the limit at two frequencies. This issue was solved during the test by repositioning a cable within the device.
