Friedrich Telematik has set new standards in the telematics industry with the development of a state-of-the-art solar LTE tracker. By using the Antennity cellular antenna module, not only were development costs saved, but impressive performance improvements were also achieved. The careful adaptation of the LTE antenna to the housing and circuit board resulted in up to 8 dB higher antenna gain in comparative tests by the customer. For GNSS positioning, a dual-band solution with L1 and L5 reception was implemented, complemented by dual feed. This combination enables centimetre-level positioning accuracy, even under difficult reception conditions. The improved LTE performance and high-precision positioning significantly expand the tracker’s range of applications, especially in areas with weak network coverage. The project impressively demonstrates how outstanding results in IoT device development can be achieved through clever component selection and targeted optimisation.
