Waste monitor
Waste monitor key data
- Waste Vision B.V. in the Netherlands
- Website: https://wastevision.comÂ
- IoT application: Dynamic route planning based on fill–level data from waste containers
- Wireless technology/protocols: LTE–M, NB–IoT, Wi-Fi
- Frequency range: Cellular 690–2200 MHz, Wifi 2399 MHz bis 2483 MHz and 5150–5350 GHz plus 5470–5725 MHz
- Antenna: PrimeLoop antenna on an 85 mm short PCB
- Further parameters: Very short ground plane, metallic environment inside the container, high TRP requirement for OTA approval in the USA
1525Waste Vision wanted to reliably connect the container data to the route planning platform via radio. The major challenge was the very short PCB, measuring just 85 mm. A conventional chip antenna provided insufficient TRP in this scenario. This created risks regarding OTA approval, range and power consumption. Additionally, metallic container parts, the lid and near-field reflections interfered with the antenna performance. This further degraded efficiency and beam direction.
Solution with Antennity PrimeLoop
Antennity replaced the chip antenna with a PrimeLoop chip-loop antenna. This solution adapted well to the short ground plane. Through targeted tuning of the loop geometry and matching network, the antenna achieved significantly better efficiency in the 690 to 960 MHz and 1525Â to 2200 MHz range on just 85 mm PCB lenght with returen loss better -6 dB.
The PrimeLoop noticeably increased the TRP, met the MNO’s OTA requirements in the USA and simultaneously reduced energy consumption. The bill of materials was also streamlined, making it more cost-effective. The problem of the ground plane being too small was thus resolved without enlarging the housing. PrimeLoop antennas also have no EOL. The same is vails for dualbans Wi-Fi on second PrimLoop antenna.
Benefits for Waste Vision
- More reliable OTA approval with MNO in USA
- Greater range and more stable connection
- Lower energy consumption in battery operation
- Compact and robust integration into the existing housing
- Lower overall costs due to reduced external expenditure
