MiWire RouDem combines an intelligent, self-rotating directional antenna with a robust outdoor modem. The goal: maximum data rates even in locations with weak network coverage. The challenge was to optimise the antenna architecture, especially the Vivaldi directional antenna, in order to increase bandwidth and improve MIMO reception for 4G and 5G.

In the first step, we redesigned the Vivaldi antenna mechanically and electrically. Through targeted adjustments to the geometry and choice of materials, we were able to significantly expand the usable bandwidth. This enables coverage of all relevant LTE and 5G bands with just one rotating directional antenna.

For MIMO functionality, we relied on broadband chip loop antenna modules based on the Abracon patent. These antennas not only offer excellent broadband performance, but can also be integrated in a space-saving manner and are insensitive to mechanical tolerances. This improves reception quality and ensures stable data rates even under difficult outdoor installation conditions. Another focus was on optimising the mechanics of the rotatable antenna unit.
